The benefits of a regular Mantra practice
There are many ways how you can benefit from a regular mantra practice. Here I've just picked my five favorite reasons.
Reason 1:
Mantra can be used to calm your mind and increase focus as the object of your meditation. Unlike for example a meditation on your breath, you are repeating a mantra which consists of a sillable, a word or a whole verse, usually in Sanskrit. With the repetition of the words you give your mind something to chew on. After a while your mind will easily calm down and settle into the rhythm of the repeating words.
Reason 2:
Mantra can be used as your "lifejacket". Once you have learned a mantra and started to establish a regular a mantra practice, you can return to the inner sanctuary of your mantra whenever you loose track of your goal, feel overwhelmed or are falling back into an old habit you would like to get rid off.
Reason 3:
Every Mantra has its own energy. Learning a Sanskrit mantra including the precise pronunciation unfolds its effects in your energy body. It's worth practising and exploring a mantra 108 times a day for 40 days to get to know and experience its energies.
Reason 4:
You can link an intention to the mantra you choose to chant. The more you repeat the mantra and connect to the energy of your intention, the more you will start to repeat automatically and the energy of your intention with it. But be careful what you wish for. The mantra might unfold its power in ways you did not intend.
Reason 5:
A daily mantra practice can also be used to connect with your body, your feelings and needs and/or your higher self. The regularity of it makes sure you connect with yourself and look after yourself when needed. It's a beautiful way of personal growth on every level.
